Black Ice had to facilitate a very tricky situation. How do you talk about SEX, STIs and Aids?

Now the task is to onboard SEX workers to make use of an NGO’s services in a mixture of languages Setswana and English.
We made use of digital tutorship and facilitation between a 3D character Facilitator and a 3D Character sex worker. We used 3D animation as medium creating characters to inform sex workers of services that protect them from sexual disease and viruses like aids, and also from abuse and violence albeit physically or emotionally.

Dealing with an important but very touchy subject is hard to do. Rather than opting for 2D Animation and stylized characters we used 3D character animation to connect with the workers on a more realistic level. Both tutor and sex worker are realistic 3D characters, meticulously texture with fine detail. All 3D characters have realistic facial and body movements.

Subject of the 3D Animation production include:

Module 1: IDENTIFICATION OF PEERS (KPS)
Female/Male Sex Worker – Facilitator
The 3D Scene is at a local bar where the female sex worker spots a potential peer. She walks towards her to start a small conversation with her. 3D Characters mouth shape are tweaked to speak Setswana as well as English.

MODULE 2: RISK ASSESSEMENT
The risk reduction process is designed to provide more individualized education and support to an individual about how their personal behavior may put them at risk for HIV transmission. It is designed to complement current community outreach sessions.

MODULE 4: SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS (STIs) AND HIV
The facilitator (3D Character) is meeting a potential peer at his/her home to share information on sexually transmitted infections.

MODULE 5: PRE – EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS
3D Animation and Character guidance about Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis, or PrEP, is an HIV prevention option. It is a daily medication that can reduce the chances of becoming infected with HIV by over 90% when taken as prescribed.

MODULE 9: CONDOMS AND LUBRICANTS
3D Animation explanation how to use condoms as prevention to contract STIs and Aids viruses.

MODULE 15: SUPPORT GROUPS FOR KPS
In this session the 3D facilitator character will briefly share with you what are support groups and their benefits.
